Self Portrait...

Oh, I mean, Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman was always a favorite show of mine growing up. I remember my Aunt, my moms' sister, looked so much like Wonder Woman, she even had other children thinking she was! I knew some day I would catch her doing the twirl and saving the day!

And now, here I am, a single mom of three, making this all happen, I think I can call myself Wonder Woman, or, at least pretend some times.

Camping Trip

My oldest daughter is going on a camping trip with four other schools today, she is very excited, but nervous too! Here is a little camping lunch; rice and ground turkey, rice cheese tent and fire, broccoli. The cheese "logs" are from this new cheese from Heidi Ho Organics I found at Whole Foods, locally made right here in Portland, made from hazelnuts! Excited to see what the kids think of it.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

I love Dr. Seuss, I love his rhythmic books and the oh so imaginative pictures and colors; I also love coming across his brilliant quotes and hearing about his story.

For this one, I once again, googled up some images and tried to figure out which would be easier to cut out! I believe the Lorax just came out so the image was everywhere, and it did seem fairly easy. I cut out the paper and used it as a pattern to cut out the cheeses, nori for hair, flax seed eyes.  The apple was more tricky than I anticipated with the stripes and trying to make it even but I think one can still tell it's a Cat in the Hat hat? Radish and asparagus trees!

A few months ago we were at a clothing swap and my oldest found these shoes in her size, a perfect day to wear these awesome Dr. Seuss shoes!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Flower

This was just going to be a bowl of rice, but I kept finding bits here and there from the fridge so it became a little flower. The sun will come out soon, right?

Leap

I kept Googling images for something that might portray "leap" for leap day, but I didn't want it just about that there is an extra day in February. I kept finding this goldfish jumping from a small fishbowl to a bigger one and I love it. I love the significance of not being stuck where you are, of having the courage to leap into something bigger, better, and more fitting.

Leap.

Birthday boy!

My sweet son's 8th birthday! I had made all of these Valentine lunches then for some reason felt completely befuddled when it was time to figure out a lunch for him, or maybe I just ran out of creativity for the month... Fortunately, he seemed quite happy with the rice and goji berries, and I'm thankful for the letter cutters and rice cheese!

Happy birthday, son, I love you!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I love this one... my favorite Valentines one.

I used beet juice to color the pink rice, and spinach to color the green rice, then put them in my heart rice molds.

I used rice cheese and my Alphabet Cutter Set (which I totally love!) to make the letters on the hearts to make conversation hearts!

Stockings

Hot dog stockings, cut the all beef hot dogs at an angle, and put them together with a toothpick. Pepper jack "cheese" cut and rolled around for the tops of the stockings. Easy and cute!

Autumn Trees

I was feeling very grumpy this morning about the fall time and how I didn't find it very inspiring at all. My brother is here and I went for a walk in the chilly air and thought there is no way I can feel creative. I sat on my step and saw these lovely, colorful leaves that had fallen to the ground. I decided that I could probably be a little more positive about my attitude. I came inside and cut out these little leaves from the rice cheese, and made happy little fall sandwiches from peanut butter and sesame seeds.

Sides of pumpkin seeds, raisins, apples and carrots.

Batcheese

I used some leftover pasta from the day before, rice cheese cut out with our bat cookie cutter, threw in some more olives. My son made the bat eyes from some cut up olives. Sides of grapes, strawberries, peanuts and carrots.
