Hummus Lunchbox

I thought I might try this idea of having a hummus platter for lunch and see how that went. I try as often as I can to be creative with what I have in the house, and this is what I have right now. My son loves hummus, my daughter, not so much. Blue corn tortilla chips, celery, carrots, and apples for some sweet.

And, yay! the pink lunch boxes finally showed up from back order!

This was supposed to be better...

So I went to Trader Joes! Picked up some gluten free onion rings, cinnamon raisin almonds, the kids were so happy to expand our daily food routine.

I was going to make some thing super awesome with the beef sausages and the wraps. I had seen a picture online and was trying to copy it in gluten free form, but... well. This is what happened. My oldest was happy and "decorated" the tray with some extra arugula and carrot placement and happily directed my photography for the morning.

Heart sushi

My son saw some heart sushi in one of the books I got from the library and really really wanted to make it. I had never made sushi in my life so making heart-shaped sushi seemed daunting. Well, he read the instructions and went to work. I helped with the cutting but he did most of the rest himself. This sushi had turkey ham, cucumber and rice.

I also tried to make some sugar and cinnamon tortillas. That didn't really work out so well. Side of carrots, apples as usual and a little note.

It is starting to stay dark longer in the mornings... hard to get very good pictures with the dark and my fluorescent lighting.

I guess I started something...

After coming home from pre-k, my little one decided that her lunch must have a face. We had to have a discussion that the nose is just a carrot..."see mom? how my nose goes from here to here and has two holes?"... that I will not be whittling the carrot to look like a real nose. She was pretty happy with the end result!

These were mini turkey meatloaves and a curvy carrot for the mouth!

Singing in the Rain

"From where I'm standing, the sun is shining all over the place!"  I will admit I'm a bit of a romantic (okay, more than a bit) and the fall rains are upon us... I must start thinking positive or it will be a long winter! Did you know that the directors of Singin' in the Rain added milk to the rain so it would show up on camera?
Turkey ham I cut into shape with a knife, nori dots, brown rice with sesame oil and flax seeds. Side of cantaloupe balls, strawberries, apples, and a sesame seed treat.

Lazy Day!

A friend of ours had some leftover Udi's Gluten Free Whole Grain Bread (1 Case) from a birthday party and gave it to us... so they got to have a "normal" lunch of peanut butter and jelly, they were so happy! Sides of cantaloupe melon balls, carrots, apples, and brownie balls.

Painting the Roses Red

The kids loved the red flower hot dogs, but my son wanted to paint them the next morning too. We got some mustard and ketchup out, our food paintbrushes and he got to work painting his flower hot dogs!

Included in this lunch is quinoa pasta, carrots, strawberries and broccoli brownies (shh! don't tell them!).
